This happy group traveled north last weekend to the 43rd Annual Matanzas 5000 in St Augustine, FL. Billed as the “fastest 5k in Florida” with a course record time of 13:58, it’s a special race that yields amazing results each year.

Our group certainly delivered on that, with numerous personal best times and age group podium finishes. If you are an Age Group award winner from the Classic By The Sea 5k, 10k or Kid’s 1 mile race last weekend, we will be bringing unclaimed Awards to Dunkin Donuts Juno Beach for pickup! We will be there at 8:00 am this Sat, January 28th. Yes, you can collect an award for a friend or relative, also!

Two opportunities to get your bib and shirt before the event!

• • You can pickup your race bib and shirt at Bikes Palm Beach the day before the race. Packet pickup is Friday, January 20th from 3 pm – 6 pm. You can also register for the race if it has not sold out.

Our annual Run 4 The Pies race is an excellent opportunity for middle school and high school age kids to earn community service hours. This race is a huge contributor to the Good Shepherd Church’s Food Pantry right before the need is greatest – our holiday season!

• Packet Pickup is Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov 22 & 23) at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church (402 Seabrook Rd, Tequesta, FL)
• Race day last minute pickup is at the same location – We ALWAYS need reliable volunteers for this!
• Race day duties include helping with the Kid’s Dash, Kid’s 1 mile race, and of course, distribution of Pies to finishers!

The schools are out all Thanksgiving week so this opportunity is a perfect way to get a cornucopia full (See that?) of community service hours for students.

Garden of Life Palm Beaches Marathon on the Dec 10-11 weekend has races for everyone! a 5k and 10k on Saturday and the marquee Half Marathon and Marathon on Sunday. You can register for those events HERE.

Classics By The Sea 5k, 10k and Kid’s 1 mile race will be on Saturday, Jan 21st at Jupiter’s Carlin Park. Registration for that race will open in the next week & we will have links her and on our social media sites.

For the second year, Girls On The Run participated in our Classics By The Sea 5k event. We received a package containing a T-Shirt, a “Thank You” letter from Program Director Diane Evans, and several handwritten notes from the runner girls. It is always a nice surprise to hear our work is recognized and appreciated. The girls ran as a group in the January race, most paired off with an adult guide. It was fun to see their smiles as they ran towards the finish line and collected their medals!

This is one of the ways we look to support youth running in our community. Girls On The Run is a mentorship program that builds confidence and teaches life lessons through the sport of running.
