Shamrock Run recap

Saturday, March 11th, 2023 – The 47th Duffy’s Shamrock Run was a success, even as the format was altered to accommodate construction in the park and on nearby roads.
Our event this year consisted of a 5k and a 10k race. One loop of the course would be our 5k race, two loops were reserved for the 10k runners. Over 700 runners and walkers joined us for a “green themed” morning in Lake Worth’s John Prince Park.
The morning delivered nice weather with temperatures just below 70. Both events began on the same road at the same time. The runners in each event were given different colored race bibs to help with the organization at the finish line. Accuchip Timing allowed for each participant to check their official time shortly after completing their race – Each bib had a QR code printed on the front. A quick scan of this code with a mobile phone brought its user to the near real time results and standings.
The course had two water stops, staffed by volunteers from John I Leonard High School and others. It proved to be a good new 5k course as we received positive feedback on the course route and 10k distance.
With an event titled “Shamrock Run,” you have to expect to see costumed runners – and yes we had plenty! Athletes of all ages brought the luck and cheer with them as they donned green Irish apparel and accessories. This is a highlight of this annual event for many of its participants. KIds, parents, volunteers and race staff all joined in on the dress-up fun.
From the racing side, we saw great performances. Chris Jones and Maura Short were the fastest 5k runners. IN the 10k, Melissa Perlman took the 1st overall position in an impressive 36 minute time. The male winner for the 10k was Ryan Deauville.
We are happy to have produced another great & fun event for our members and our community… Here are the 2023 Shamrock Run results.
2023 Shamrock Run – Two race options!

Calling all runners and walkers! For 46 years the Shamrock Run has offered our runners a chance to “trying their luck” on the roads & paths of our community. This year the Lucky Fox has a surprise for our athletes…
The Duffy’s Shamrock Run events will be a one loop course for the 5k event or a two loop course for a 10k event.
Your choices are usually a 5k or a 10 mile course for the Saturday before St Patrick’s Day. What’s different? Why the change?
Our event site, Lake Worth’s John Prince Park, is in the midst of a construction project. The 6th Avenue South bridge is being expanded. This is the road that crosses over the connector paths of John Prince Park North & John Prince Park South. We cannot use the traditional route that led runners under 6th Avenue South due to this work being done on the overpass. So this year, runners can choose from participating in a 5k race or a 10k race. Everything else is the same! It’s all still right in John Prince Park, accessible from the Congress Avenue entrance. Both events will finish at the same spot near the familiar pavilion and restrooms.
We’ll have plenty of fun, green costumes & outfits, good cheer, and cold beer (for runners of legal drinking age). We will be back to our usual 5k race and 10 Mile race once the road widening project is completed.
Count your clovers and bring the family as this race is very well attended each year – Don’t get left behind!
(The Li’l Lepruchaun Dash is unchanged for 2023 – it is a 100 yard dash for kids 7 and under)

Terrific Results at Matanzas 5000 race

This happy group traveled north last weekend to the 43rd Annual Matanzas 5000 in St Augustine, FL. Billed as the “fastest 5k in Florida” with a course record time of 13:58, it’s a special race that yields amazing results each year.
Our group certainly delivered on that, with numerous personal best times and age group podium finishes. Pictured from left to right: Brandon Smith (PR + AG win), Brent McQuilken (AG Podium), Steve Monks (Senior Masters win), Jennie Sober (AG win), Daniel Yinh (PR + AG win), Scott Koonce (AG Podium) and Kristen DeSimone (AG Podium).

Run 4 The Pies Volunteers

Our annual Run 4 The Pies race is an excellent opportunity for middle school and high school age kids to earn community service hours. This race is a huge contributor to the Good Shepherd Church’s Food Pantry right before the need is greatest – our holiday season!
- Packet Pickup is Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov 22 & 23) at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church (402 Seabrook Rd, Tequesta, FL)
- Race day last minute pickup is at the same location – We ALWAYS need reliable volunteers for this!
- Race day duties include helping with the Kid’s Dash, Kid’s 1 mile race, and of course, distribution of Pies to finishers!
The schools are out all Thanksgiving week so this opportunity is a perfect way to get a cornucopia full (See that?) of community service hours for students.
** Adults also welcome to help! 😊
