Education Foundation is Classics By The Sea Charity
We are happy to announce that The Education Foundation of Palm Beach’s Red Apple Supplies Program is the charity beneficiary for our 2020 Classics By The Sea race.
The mission of Red Apple Supplies Program is to serve the educational and creative needs of children in Palm Beach County’s public schools by providing a means to transfer donated school supplies from businesses, organizations, and individuals free to teachers for use in classrooms throughout the school year.
We ask that you please bring school supplies to packet pickup and/or on race day.
Suggested items for donation:
The students need these basic school supplies all year long, not just in August for traditional “Back To School.” Please bring items to race morning or packet pickup on Friday afternoon. Let’s show our community how our Palm Beach Roadrunners running community gives back!

Burgers & Beer 5k
Now in its second year, the Burger & Beer 5k brings a fun event to a most popular park and run course in our area – the WPB/Dreher Park Zoo. Each participant gets a runner shirt, finisher medal, a tasty hamburger with chips, and beer provided by Steamhorse Brewery! The Presenting Sponsor is Scott Smith Injury Law – big thanks to them.
The route begins in the park on the south side of Summit Blvd and with the help of WPB Police, snakes across into the zoo to wind back around and finish near the Main Pavilion in Dreher Park. We will have a live band cranking out music on your Saturday night to add to the party!
The charity beneficiary is the Palm Beach Roadrunner Scholarship Fund, which each year sends middle and high school age cross country and track athletes to Warrior Running Camp in Central Florida. A portion of each registration goes to the Scholarship fund and you can make donations over and above if you desire. For info and registration please use this link…

Run Cancer Out of the Park 5k
Here’s a terrific race making a return this year to Jonathan Dickenson State Park in Tequesta. Sat Sept 7th will be the second running of this event. Organized by Bianca Papa, the idea was conceived after she witnessed first-hand the amazing work done by St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Her brother, Beckett, was successfully treated for a rare blood cancer and has since been deemed “cancer free! Last year’s debut race was very successful, as Bianca was able to raise and donate $25,000 to St Jude’s from the event. This year will undoubtedly be even larger, with more runners and walkers aware of the race and its cause.
JD State Park’s 5k course is on a shady path through a natural wooded area. Walkers and runners are welcomed, the run will be professionally timed by Accuchip Timing for those looking to race. More information about the event and live registration can be found here:

Jingle in July Run
This Wednesday, July 24th at 6:15 pm we are meeting at Downtown at the Gardens for a 5k run. This non-competitive event (no timing) is to promote The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run 5k Race, which will be held (no surprise) at Downtown at the Gardens in December.
The run will be on a mostly shaded course on the back side of the neighborhood behind the Gardens Mall. Adult beverages, promotional goodies, and discount registration for the 5k race will be waiting at the end of the run. This is a new race on the calendar for Palm Beach Gardens, it will be Saturday morning, Dec 14th, 2019. We encourage all runners to join in with this fun event – aren’t you looking for a little Christmas spirit here in mid-July?
Marathon Training begins for December’s Palm Beaches Half and Full Marathon
Yesterday’s “info session” at The Cooper in Palm Beach Gardens was the unofficial kickoff of our 2019 Training Program for the Palm Beaches Marathon. This is the second year of PBRR’s involvement with Presenting Sponsor Jupiter Medical Center. We assist runners by providing training plans and certified coaches to help folks complete the half marathon or marathon at this year’s Palm Beaches Marathon event on December 8th. The program begins August 6th with an info session meeting in Jupiter Medical Center’s Wellness Center at 6:00 pm. Runners interested in participating in this year’s training can attend the meeting Aug 6th or email Kristen Lidstrom with Jupiter Medical Center at: Kristen.Lindstrom@jupitermed.com
This is a great way to achieve the goal of completing a 13.1 mile or 26.2 mile race with the support of a group. Your training can be done by joining in our weekly group runs along with doing your own runs. This means that you will be part of a structured plan when you want to be, and running on your schedule otherwise – so convenient. We invite experienced runners looking to improve their times to also join our group, as the accountability of training with others is a strong motivator!
PBRR sends a big group to Boston Marathon
The 123rd Boston Marathon was run on Monday, April 15th, 2019. Our members, including several “first timers,” ran the famed course from Hopkinton to the finish line in Boston. Many of the PBRRs ran BQ times, allowing for a repeat visit next year!
Sherry Hobson Completes 75 miles for her 75th B-day
This past weekend, Sherry Hobson completed a series of three 25 mile runs (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) to celebrate her 75th birthday. More importantly, her efforts were aimed at bringing awareness to the National Alliance to End Veteran Suicide. Her efforts concluded Sunday afternoon with successful completion of the final 25 miles and a reception for Sherry. Her effort was sponsored by Connected Warriors, an organization bringing the recovery benefits of yoga to veterans. Also joining Sherry to wrap up her amazing weekend were some of the runners that joined her over the three-day span and her support crew members. And yes, there was a birthday cake for tha gal that just completed near a marathon a day for the last three days!
Congratulations on your accomplishment Sherry!
