Celebration of Life – Bob Anderson

We are saddened to report the passing of long time Palm Beach Roadrunner Bob Anderson.
Bob was very instrumental in PBRR’s growth and events for many years. He served on our Board of Directors, the steering group that determines the community and financial decisions our club makes. Bob could be found awake and busy early on weekends, setting up water stops for our long runs. He worked at Running Sports in Juno Beach for a stint, keeping Saturday runners informed and hydrated from Singer Island to Jupiter Lighthouse. If you were a Sunday long runner, Bob would have your fluids ready in WPB early – from Flagler Drive to Lake Worth and over the bridge on to South Palm Beach Island.
Bob also created and led a vibrant training group, preparing runners for our local Florida marathons. He and his runners prepared at Dyer Park, the Blue Heron Bridge and their weekly runs from Clematis St downtown. Taking that a step further, he organized trips for his runners looking to attend destination races. A great example of that was Bob arranging for a group to Ireland for the Dublin Marathon! Bob was very generous with his time, his advice and encouragement touched many of our runners during and after their training.
Perhaps a most memorable contribution that Bob was responsible for was the creation of our Run 4 The Pies Thanksgiving Day race. Together with Jim Werring, they came up with the novel idea of hosting a neighborhood race on the holiday morning. More than just a “turkey trot,” they made our event unique by awarding the fastest runners each year with an apple pie as a prize! You had to be speedy to win one for your Thanksgiving feast. This race remains a PBRR staple and one of the largest running events in our area every year.
